  • Representing Grainger Plc during the competitive tendering process for Aldershot Urban Extension, a mixed use residential scheme with schools, community and leisure facilities on a former military site in Hampshire
  • Acting for Cathedral (Clapham) Limited in relation to a mixed use residential-let project, including dealing with the development aspects, pre-sales, social housing, senior debt and debt and equity funding
  • Acting on the establishment of a joint venture between Native Land Limited and the Grosvenor Estate for the acquisition of the site at Bankside 4 from Land Securities, subject to complex overage and profit-sharing arrangements.  We also advised on the introduction of equity for the Development and continue to act in acquiring additional land for the Development and for the provision of off-site affordable housing
  • Advising on structuring and documentation for the development of an US$30 million mixed use residential, hotel and leisure complex in the UAE
  • Acting for a joint venture between Grainger plc and Helical Bar plc in their successful bid to London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to be appointed as preferred Developer for the redevelopment of land adjoining Hammersmith Town Hall as a major retail, office and residential PPP scheme. Following the appointment as preferred Developer we acted in settling the Development Agreement and now act on an on-going basis


  • Advising a UK developer on the complex financing aspects of the Radisson Edwardian Guildford Hotel development – a four star hotel and residential complex
  • Advising Credit Suisse on the £50 million refinancing of a well know shop on Oxford Street
  • Drafting and negotiating the refinancing of the Chelsea Harbour – a mixed use development in Central London, situated on the north bank of the River Thames. It contains a five star, luxury hotel, offices, showrooms and a small marina
  • Acting for Terrace Hill Group in relation to a number of transactions including substantial forward funding of a major retail-led development in Bishop Auckland, forward funded with Aviva Investments, and acquisition and letting of a 125,000 sq ft office development site in Maidenhead with joint venture partner and funding from Hypo Real Estate
  • Acting for Credit Suisse (UK) Limited on loans with a combined value in excess of £150 million secured against prime residential properties in England & Wales of a value in excess of £300 million
  • Advising JP Morgan Chase in relation to secured lending on high value residential properties in the UK


  • Acting for an overseas investor over the past 5 years in disposing of more than £450 million of "trophy building" investments and its ongoing investment in the Heron Tower
  • Advising a Middle Eastern investor on the purchase of a medical centre investment in central London for £7.5 million
  • Advising offshore investors and developers on the acquisition and disposal of a substantial residential/commercial development in central London for £23 million
  • Advising an investment bank in relation to the establishment of a property investment fund for the purpose of acquiring a portfolio of properties in the GCC and Middle East North Africa region to be developed and managed as luxury serviced apartments
  • Advising a major Spanish investor in the acquisition of a substantial mixed-use investment property in Oxford Street for a price in excess of £100 million
  • Advising a consortium of investors on the largest stand alone private sector project in Dubai, being a US$2.4 billion development in TECOM


  • Acting for Thamesway Developments Ltd in successfully defending an application by an action group to thwart development by having land registered as Village Green
  • Acting for the State of Libya in relation to a dispute concerning further consideration due to our client pursuant to the terms of a contract for the sale of a school in Chelsea
  • Acting for DMH Stallard and their insurers in relation to a claim brought by Sussex County Cricket Club in relation to the arrangements for the termination of the lease of a public house at Hove cricket ground
  • Successfully defending The Carphone Warehouse in relation to a dispute over a substantial call centre, threatened with forfeiture of lease due to inherited liability from a previous owner
  • Acting on £20 million+ dilapidations case arising from an ex government office building involving complex s18(1) and supersession points
  • Advising Banner Homes on declaration and rectification proceedings as to validity of an Option and defending Counterclaim in respect of breaches of Developer Obligations
  • Acting for a developer defending a right of light claim threatening the completion of a luxury penthouse flat in Bayswater
  • Acting for Property Developer in relation to City Office Development in injunction proceedings concerning infringement of Rights of Light and Trespass Claim resulting in substantial payment of damages and release of all claims so as to enable development of clients own scheme


  • Advising CALA Homes in promoting a new (2,000 dwelling) urban extension on a greenfield site at Barton Farm in Winchester, which was subject to a lengthy public inquiry attracting wide media interest.  We were responsible for coordinating and settling (in concert with Counsel) the team's evidence and (together with CALA's planning team) advising on strategy generally
  • Acting for Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes in securing planning permission from the Secretary of State for a proposed new neighbourhood (around 1,900 units) at the North East Sector, Crawley.  Consent was granted following two successful legal challenges and two lengthy public inquiries, all of which were coordinated by us
  • Acting for Newquay Cornwall Airport in relation to various ongoing development projects
  • Acting for Silverstone Estates in relation to the proposed comprehensive redevelopment of the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire.  The proposed development would create a new, world-class facility and reaffirm Silverstone as a global leader in motor racing and the high-tech motor sport industry
  • Securing a landmark judgment in the Court of Appeal on behalf of Millhouse Developments, Persimmon Homes and Barratt Homes pursuant to which the affordable housing policy of the adopted Blyth Valley Core Strategy was quashed and the test of ‘soundness’ in the previous version of PPS12 was deemed to be unlawful


  • Advising the landlord on Boxpark, a new pop-up mall in Shoreditch comprising 60 shipping containers converted into shops
  • Advising Mango on all new acquisitions since February 2010 including flagship stores in One New Change and in Manchester with many other ongoing matters including many in the Far East
  • Advising Forever 21 on all their first England and Welsh stores including their first flagship store in the Bullring, Birmingham
  • Advising Best Buy, following their introduction into the UK market, on all of their English stores including the flagship store that opened last year to huge press coverage at Hedge End
  • Acting for Inditex on flagship stores in London for a number of their brands including Massimo Dutti and Zara at a number of sites such as Westfield Stratford.  We have acted for them since their entry into the UK in 1999
