Clyde & Co’s Hong Kong office was established in 1981 and is a major presence for our services in Asia. Our offices in Shanghai and Singapore complement our activities in the region.

Our Hong Kong office has a strong commercial focus and has been providing local and international clients with an extensive range of legal services for over 25 years. We work closely with our network of international offices around the world, and in particular, our Shanghai office.

The Hong Kong and Shanghai offices operate as an integrated unit and there is much involvement and interaction between the two offices. We have the critical mass, resources and depth of experience to handle large, complex transactions.

We continue to expand our practice to meet the interest of clients, particularly Europe-based clients, in M&A and foreign direct investment into China. We also serve the commercial needs of our UK, US and Middle East client base with interests in Asia.

Our clients include major international corporates, insurers and reinsurers, investment banks and other financial institutions, trading houses, airlines, oil and gas companies, charters, ship owners and P&I clubs and government organisations and NGOs.

We provide a full commercial service including:

  • Aviation
  • Corporate and commercial
  • Corporate restructuring and insolvency
  • Dispute resolution and international arbitration
  • Insurance and reinsurance
  • Intellectual property
  • International trade
  • Shipping and logistics

Our lawyers are qualified to practise law in Hong Kong, England and Wales, Singapore, Italy and Spain. Many of them speak Mandarin and Cantonese in addition to English, and are also fluent in Italian, Spanish, French and German.

Key work handled in our Hong Kong office includes the restructuring of, and obtaining regulatory approval, for a Hong Kong joint venture as part of a US$1.5 billion global acquisition. We also represented a US purchaser in relation to the Hong Kong elements of a multi-jurisdictional acquisition worth approximately US$24 million.

Notable contentious work has included settling a case in relation to the supply and verification of 12 million counterfeit parts.
