Recent experience

• Advising liquidators of an Islamic Bank and defending the Bank (in liquidation) in major QFC Court litigation brought by certain former officers.
• Advising insurers in connection with financial lines claims in the Region following the financial crisis, including Awal Bank, Saad, Algosaibi related matters.
• Advising foreign principals and local agents in various commercial agency disputes (UAE & other GCC Courts).
• Advising rig builders in two linked arbitrations relating to alleged warranty claims and attempts to call performance guarantees.
• Advising shipbuilders on insolvency of the owner of an FPSO under conversion in relation to securing their rights and structuring the sale of the Vessel.
• Defending healthcare providers against claims arising from alleged medical negligence (usually on the instructions of their insurers).
• Advising CAR/EAR insurers in connection with claims arising on major projects (power and water, petrochemical, offshore energy).
• Enforcing of foreign and domestic arbitration awards against various GCC respondents.
• Sitting as an arbitrator (sole or co-arbitrator) in a wide range of disputes.  Alec has concluded an average of approximately one arbitration per month in the period late 2010 to late 2011.
