Andrew Tobin

Legal Director, London

Andrew specialises in commercial dispute resolution and in insurance / reinsurance questions.

Andrew advises on a wide range of commercial disputes, including debt recovery / defence, professional negligence, supply chain and general contractual disputes. Andrew's work usually has international elements.

Andrew is a member of our specialist Political Risk and Trade Credit insurance team. His practice includes:

  • Political risk insurance - expropriation, confiscation and nationalisation
  • Political violence insurance - terrorism, insurrection, war etc.
  • Power, construction and engineering insurance
  • Financial institutions insurance
  • Product liability
  • Cargo, specie, and jeweller's block
  • Subrogated recoveries
  • Marine hull and machinery
  • UK and overseas insurance regulation, and
  • Reinsurance

Andrew is deputy editor and principal contributor to a recent book: 'War Risks and Terrorism Insurance' , available from The Insurance Institute of London.

Andrew has a particular interest in Russia and the former Soviet Union, to which he regularly travels and is a regular speaker. He advises upon a broad range of issues connected with Russia, often in conjunction with colleagues from across the firm.

Andrew qualified as a barrister (graded 'very competent') in 2000. Andrew practised at the bar and worked for a US law firm specialising in insurance before joining Clyde & Co in 2003. He was admitted as a solicitor in 2003 and was promoted to Legal Director in 2009.

Andrew graduated in Russian and East European History at London University's School of Slavonic and East European Studies; he then took an MA in Modern History at University College London before spending a year at Saint Petersburg State University, Russia studying Russian language and culture. Andrew then studied law at the College of Law and Inns of Court School of Law.

Andrew is on the committee of the British Russian Law Association.
