David is a partner in the Guildford office of Clyde & Co and sits on the executive of the firm's shipping department.
He has wide-ranging experience of dispute resolution in oil and gas, international trading, shipping, construction and general commercial litigation. David travels regularly to Paris, Geneva, Houston, Calgary and Aberdeen, which is where many of his clients are based. He is the firm's relationship partner for BP and Total.
David's clients include offshore service contractors, major oil and gas companies, oil, chemicals and commodity traders, banks, shipyards and vessel owners, telecom companies and electronic goods manufacturers.
As well as High Court/Commercial Court litigation, David has significant arbitration experience particularly in large value cross-border ICC arbitration. He is a certified arbitrator with the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre (Bahrain). He has also handled arbitrations under several other arbitration rules, including LMAA, LCIA, UNCITRAL and various trade arbitration bodies.
David has experience in matters ancillary to arbitration, including obtaining freezing injunctions in support of arbitration, obtaining and defending security for costs orders, obtaining final and final interim awards on an expedited basis, and challenging enforcement of defective awards.
David has been recognised by Legal 500 (2007) as one of the notable individuals at Clyde & Co who were rated first in dry shipping.
