David Coupe

Partner, London

David is a partner in Clyde & Co's corporate insurance group, part of the wider insurance and reinsurance group. He joined Clyde & Co as a partner in 2006, having previously led the corporate insurance practice at another leading law firm.

His main area of practice relates to non-contentious aspects of the Lloyd's and London insurance markets, but has also worked on setting a number of other insurance and reinsurance vehicles in Bermuda, Eire and Gibraltar and transactions in the UK generally.

David has been involved with AIM flotations, and general traditional M&A in both the general and life industries, joint ventures, MBO's/MBI's, and private equity structures. He is also heavily involved in the team moves of insurance and other service providers. He is also involved on the product development side including alternative risk transfer and other taxed based products and business production agreements such as affinity schemes.

His clients are principally brokers, underwriting agents, insurance agents, Lloyd's managing agents and other service providers in the UK insurance market.

He also deals heavily in the run-off market and has lead a team that dealt with three schemes of arrangement, one being the first to be approved Post BAIC, and another being the first of a branch operation of a French insurer (which also involved the first Chapter 15 application in the US Bankruptcy Courts).

David has worked in many jurisdictions within North America, the European Union, Eastern Europe and the Far East.
