Lesley Gray
Consultant, London
Recent experience
- Lesley has been instructed in most of the large North Sea losses such as Alexander Keiland and Ocean Odyssey
- In particular, following the loss of Piper Alpha in July 1988, she was instructed by Occidental to represent its interests at Lord Cullen's public inquiry and formed part of a multi-national team which negotiated a mid-Atlantic settlement with the claimants. Lesley then negotiated and paid the individual claims and represented her clients in several arbitrations at which the sums to be paid to the survivors were determined. Thereafter, on the instructions of Occidental, its co-venturers and insurers, she raised 146 actions in the Court of Session, Edinburgh against contractors who had employees on board the platform and with whom Occidental had reciprocal indemnities
- Lesley had overall responsibility and case management for the conduct of these cases which ultimately went to the House of Lords, culminating in a successful conclusion for her clients
