Michael is a construction and projects partner. He has been advising on the legal aspects of construction projects since 1993 when he qualified in the UK. He has been based in the Middle East with Clyde & Co LLP since 1998, becoming a partner in 2004.
Michael advises public and private sector clients on procurement options, contracts, forms of security, insurance and claims preparation. He has extensive experience of conducting construction and engineering disputes in the region's local courts and arbitration under both local and international rules. These include a number of the region's largest and most high profile disputes arising in recent years.
Author of a guide to local law and practice entitled "Construction Contracts and Disputes in the United Arab Emirates", Michael has also produced articles on a variety of construction topics for, amongst others, the RIBA Journal and Construction Week. He has presented papers at various conferences including the Commercial Law Conference in Bahrain for members of the region's judiciary at the invitation of the United States Department of Commerce, the first international conference of the Society of Construction Law as well as the first conference of the Gulf branch of the Society of Construction Law in Dubai.
Michael was the first legal advisor to the UAE branch of The Lighthouse Club, the worldwide construction charity and chairman of the benevolent fund from 2005 until 2011.
