Nigel trained in the London East End in general practice and joined the firm in 1978. He has been a partner since 1983.
His first specialisation was marine insurance and he has a number of English leading cases to his credit, notably Boskalis v Mountain (CTL, illegality and ransom), Capricorn (insurable interest) and Nukila (latent defect and defective part). He has years of experience of every class of marine risk.
Latterly, his practice has focused upon energy, heavy engineering, power and industrials, both operation and construction. He has profiles in the major directories and is generally recognised as a market leader, particularly for energy.
Nigel acts for insurers on coverage and subrogation and for insured and insurers in relation to defence of liabilities. He has in addition a thriving international arbitration practice acting for a number of international engineering contractors in relation to contractual disputes arising out of this industry sector.
His energy experience embraces both upstream: control of well, construction and operating, as well as downstream: petrochemicals, power generation and machinery breakdown, including business interruption.
Nigel's practice is primarily dispute resolution. He has experience not only litigation, arbitration and mediation in the UK but also the supervision of cases in many other jurisdictions around the world as well as international arbitration before all the established arbitral panels.
