Shahnaz graduated from Australia with a Bachelor's of Law degree.  She is an Australian qualified solicitor admitted in the roll of lawyers of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Prior to joining Clyde & Co, she had experience working with a major hotel chain owner. 

Shahnaz is a member of the IP, Commercial and TMT team in Dubai. She has extensive research skills and deep knowledge of local laws in the UAE, KSA and the wider GCC region. Shahnaz advises clients on a board range of legal and regulatory issues, spanning a large number of sectors including education, hospitality, technology, health, entertainment and media, and various others. 

Her knowledge of local laws allows her to draft commercial contracts with a view of the parties’ rights and obligations under local laws in practice and advise clients on considerations when contracting in the region. She can conduct research to identify the relevant laws and regulations and advise clients on almost any legal issue. 

Experience
  • Consumer products – advising clients on product registration requirements, product labelling, consumer activation, conformity with local standards, import and export requirements, licensing and permits. 
  • Data protection and privacy – advising clients on applicable data protection laws in the GCC region, data localisation, right of data subjects, legal grounds for processing data, drafting privacy policies, cookies policies and other relevant legal documents. 
  • Pharmaceuticals – advising clients on medical device and pharmaceutical drugs registration requirements and procedures in the UAE and KSA, and other medical / health regulations. Reviewed a Covid-19 vaccine agreement for a major pharmaceutical company and advised on local law registration requirements. 
  • Franchising – advising major F&B and hospitality clients on the application of the KSA franchise law, and drafting the necessary commercial agreements to support those arrangements or reviewing the client’s agreement for compliance with local laws.  
  • Media / Tech – advising a multi-billion dollar technology company on laws in respect of content prohibitions and restrictions, copyright infringement issues, advertising regulations, filming regulations, GPS tracking, consumer protection laws and various other issues relevant to their range of products. 
  • Regulatory – advising clients on a wide range of regulatory issues, such as the requirements for a client to import chemicals, legality of E-signatures, permits required to operate a swimming pool on a university campus. 
  • Entertainment – drafting various commercial agreements including a sponsorship agreement for a race car competition, a film production agreement, a copyright assignment agreement for the lyrics of a song, and an endorsement agreement for a famous Lebanese singer. 
  • General commercial – advising clients on agency, distribution and franchising arrangements. 
  • Intellectual Property – involved in trade mark disputes, regularly advise clients on protection of all intellectual property rights including copyright, trade marks, patents and industrial designs, drafting of IP policies for clients and reviewing IP clauses in employment contracts.
