Clyde & Co's property team has advised Grainger on its winning bid to develop 4,500 homes on a former military site in Hampshire.

The leading international law firm represented Grainger during the competitive tendering process for Aldershot Urban Extension, a mixed use residential scheme with schools and community and leisure facilities.

The Ministry of Defence's property arm, Defence Estates, and the government's Homes and Communities Agency selected Grainger to regenerate the 365 acres of land at Aldershot Garrison – one of the largest Brownfield sites in the south east.

Grainger beat competition from Taylor Wimpey and Argent for the contract. Work will include the restoration and conversion of the historic Cambridge Military Hospital building and work is now under way on planning.

Martin Quicke, who led the Clyde & Co team, said: "We are delighted to have been able to help Grainger secure this tremendous contract with Defence Estates and the Homes and Communities Agency after a very demanding selection process. The development is great news for the future of Aldershot and a great result for Grainger as well."

John Beresford of Grainger said: "This was a complex deal but Clyde & Co negotiated and managed some very challenging issues. The bid ran very smoothly and we are of course very pleased with the outcome."
