Online Talc Jury Trial Against J&J Ends In Mistrial

A California judge declared a mistrial in a pending lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson after the plaintiff tragically passed away during online jury proceedings. The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff developed malignant mesothelioma as a result of using the company's talc powder over his lifetime. The plaintiff's lawyer opened the case against Johnson & Johnson by stating that the asbestos found in the talc products directly caused his client's mesothelioma, a claim that Johnson & Johnson disputed during opening arguments. The company continues to maintain that the use of its talc products remains safe for consumers, even as they face ongoing litigation in other lawsuits filed against them. Johnson & Johnson has almost 22,000 active product liability cases over talcum powder, in addition to securities litigation claiming fraudulent advertising in relation to the safety of their talc-based products.
