Ignacio Arriagada is a Senior Associate at our Santiago office. His practice is focused on dispute resolution, both in ordinary courts and arbitration, with expertise representing and advising insurers, reinsurers and corporate clients in complex disputes across diverse sectors including energy, construction, aviation, real estate and healthcare.

Ignacio has experience in insurance-related conflicts, such as recovery claims and coverage disputes, advising and representing both insurance and reinsurance companies. Also, he has broad expertise regarding regulatory matters and execution of public contracts, defending the interests of companies in their relations with state agencies. Likewise, Ignacio has advised clients in commercial and corporate disputes.

Ignacio studied at the School of Law of Universidad de Chile, obtaining a Law degree in 2018. Also in 2018, he completed a diploma program in Competition Law & Policy.

Experience

• Insurance – Representing a local insurance company in a USD 29 million recovery action arising from manufacturing defects of a gas turbine installed at a 517 MW power plant in northern Chile.
• Energy & Natural Resources – Representing an oil refinery in an arbitration proceeding concerning an alleged breach of a long-term supply contract.
• Insurance – Acting for a local insurance company in an arbitration over coverage of a USD 10 million claim involving an alleged cyberfraud.
• Construction & Public Contracts – Representation of a construction company in a dispute arisen after the wrongful termination of a USD 10,7 million public infrastructure contract, related to cost overruns linked to the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
• Insurance – Advising a foreign reinsurance company on recovery actions following the payment of a USD 85 million indemnity, due to a series of large-scale forest fires.
• Aviation – Representing a local helicopter company, in a lawsuit against a state agency, after the improper termination of a public bidding process in which the company participated.
• Real Estate Litigation - Representing the owner company of a major automotive retail centre in a legal proceeding challenging the compensation awarded for the expropriation of a strip of land where the centre operates.
• Insurance – Acting as external counsel to a local insurance company in assessing recovery efforts carried out by third parties.
