Mai has advised on a number of corporate transactions, working with clients operating in the healthcare, insurance and reinsurance, and retail and consumer sectors.

Mai is a licensed lawyer in Egypt. She completed Law School from Cairo University in 2016. Mai graduated with a Master of Laws degree (LLM) from Faculty of Law, Cairo University in 2019, and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from Faculty of Law, English Section, Cairo University in 2016.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Mai has previously worked for a regional law firm as well as leading Egyptian law firms. In addition, Mai served for a period of time as a State Attorney at the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority.

Mai is fluent in Arabic and English.

  • Seconded to a multinational pharmaceutical company for two years, covering a senior legal manager role and managing end-to-end legal operations, advising business units on commercial, regulatory, employment, and data privacy matters, and partnering with the business on strategic projects.

Employment & Social Insurance

  • Advising a multinational healthcare organisation on employee transfers, restructuring projects, performance management plans, employee handbooks and HR-related documentation (including onboarding/offboarding documents), outsourcing arrangements, and employee exits and terminations.
  • Advising a French company on digitalisation requirements under the new Social Insurance system in Egypt.

Corporate & Commercial Projects

  • Advising multinational pharmaceutical companies on patent protection strategies and enforcement of IP rights in Egypt.
  • Advising a global company in retail and consumer sector in relation to their privacy policies, data processing agreements, and other data privacy documentation, as well as preparing privacy notices for websites and mobile applications.
  • Advising pharmaceutical and hospitality companies on anti-trust practices and competition law compliance in Egypt, including evaluating business practices in light of ECA decisions and guidelines.
  • Preparing full due diligence sections covering HR, social insurance, and privacy compliance for corporate transactions.

Arbitration & Disputes

  • Representing the claimant in arbitration proceedings concerning a dispute arising from a ticketing company’s failure to remit dues owed to an entertainment company in Egypt, and securing a final arbitral award worth several thousand USD in favor of the claimant.
