Laura is a Partner in Clyde & Co’s Madrid office, where she specialises in insurance coverage and dispute resolution. She advises insurers and corporate clients on complex claims and disputes, with particular experience in civil liability, construction and property damage, personal injury, employers’ liability and professional indemnity.
She has extensive experience in domestic and international litigation, as well as in pre-litigation strategy and out-of-court settlements. Her practice covers a wide range of complex matters, including industrial losses, machinery breakdown claims, fires, fraud, personal injury and professional indemnity. She regularly represents clients before the Spanish courts and coordinates cross-border matters involving foreign counsel, technical experts and other specialist advisers.
Laura’s experience combines private practice with in-house legal work in the insurance sector. This gives her a practical understanding of insurers’ internal decision-making processes, claims handling priorities and risk management considerations, allowing her to provide commercially focused advice throughout the lifecycle of a dispute.
Laura holds a double degree in Law and Business Administration from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is also a lecturer in the International Law Master’s Programme at the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Empresa (ISDE); additionally, she teaches in the Master in Access to the Legal Profession at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE).
In 2024, Laura was recognised in Spain’s 40 under 40 ranking for insurance professionals, which highlights leading talent in the insurance sector. She is also an active member of Women in a Legal World, where she founded the Insurance Law Commission.
Experience
- Defending an insurance company and the Policyholder in a drowning incident in a pool suffered by a child who had been admitted the day before the incident to a detox foundation; the accident took place in a public pool.
- Defending an insurance company and the Policyholder against multiple claims arising from an allegedly defective contraceptive that caused severe injuries and consequences to female users.
- Handling the proceedings instigated as a result of food contamination case (listeria) which affected over 150 people and cased a number of death and serious personal damages and abortions to pregnant women.
- Advised an insurer on complex coverage and liability issues arising from an explosion during construction works, caused by the accidental puncturing of a gas pipeline while working in a street lighting manhole.
