George is an Associate in the International Arbitration Group in our London office since 2015. He has a broad range of experience of commercial and investment disputes, both in arbitration and in the Courts of England & Wales, with a focus on the mining, energy, construction and insurance sectors.
George has served as Legal Counsel (Secondee) to the Legal Transition Team of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with a focus on renewable energy and climate change. George is actively involved in Clyde & Co's resilience and climate change campaigns.
George is also an active member of the arbitration sector's young international groups, attends various events and conferences, and has authored articles on topics relating to international and investment arbitration, as well as the interplay between law and emerging technologies.
George graduated with an LL.B. honours law degree from the University of Bristol in 2013 and an LL.M. degree in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary, University of London in 2014. George was admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales in 2017. He was also admitted as a solicitor advocate in 2018, and therefore has rights of audience in all civil proceedings in the higher courts.
George is fluent in English, Greek, and German and has a basic working knowledge of French and Russian
Advising an Australian listed mining company in ICSID annulment proceedings against the Republic of The Gambia in respect of a successful award for AUD$AUD31 million in relation to the termination of a mining concession (ICSID Case No. ARB/09/19).
Advising an American multinational energy company in proceedings in the Business & Property Courts (Technology and Construction) in respect of property damage and business interruption claims of over US$15 million arising from the failure of a power plant failure in Northwest England.
Advising reinsurers in JAMS mediation proceedings in respect of an insurance coverage claim worth US$1.4 billion arising from a dam failure in Brazil.
Advising reinsurers in LCIA arbitration proceedings in respect of claims for insurance cover arising from the construction of a hydroelectric dam in Brazil.
Advising reinsurers on claims for property damage in ARIAS arbitration arising from the failure of a power plant in Ghana.
Advising reinsurers in respect of business interruption, property damage, and delay in start-up claims resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Advising reinsurers in respect of errors & omissions claims and data security breaches in the technology, media and healthcare sectors in North America.
