Vanessa is a Partner in the insurance practice in Singapore with over 15 years of experience working in both the London and Singapore markets, advising insurers and reinsurers in connection with claims and policy coverage, policy wordings as well as regulatory issues. She is also consulted by industry bodies, including for example the London Market Association on the development of insurance policy wording, as well as in connection with claims education.
Vanessa handles complex, contentious, as well as multi-jurisdictional insurance and reinsurance coverage and liability disputes and is experienced in a range of dispute resolution processes including litigation, international arbitration (ICC, LCIA, LMAA and UNCITRAL) and mediation.
She has experience across a wide range of insurance business lines including directors’ and officers’ and professional indemnity risks, warranty & indemnity, cyber, general liability, product liability, contingency, cargo, cash-in-transit, jeweler’s block, specie and fine art, although she is particularly recognised for her work across complex specialty lines matters. She has particular expertise in advising the political risk and trade credit market on policy coverage and recoveries in connection with expropriation (CEND) risks, contract frustration, non-payment, aircraft non-repossession, and political violence.
Vanessa also runs a dedicated recoveries practice focusing on pursuing debt claims, and works with corporate entities as well as many of the global Export Credit Agencies and trade credit insurers post-indemnification to assist in the pursuit of recoveries in connection with accounts receivables and trade credit portfolios.
She is recognised as a Next Generation Partner for Insurance (Singapore) by Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Vanessa has been described as an “Expert on credit insurance, in-depth knowledge and understanding of coverage and how to manage complex litigation and arbitrations successfully” and is a “very pragmatic tenacious litigator.”
