The Missouri Court of Appeals has vacated a trial award against Johnson & Johnson in connection with their sale of talc products.

Missouri Court of Appeals Vacates Massive Talc-Related Judgment Against Johnson & Johnson

The Missouri Court of Appeals has vacated an USD 110,000,000 trial award against Johnson & Johnson in connection with that company's sale of talc products. Plaintiff (and Virginia resident) Lois Slemp had obtained the verdict (which contained over USD 100,000,000 in punitive damages) against the company in 2017 – she claimed she'd developed ovarian cancer as a result of using Johnson's Baby Powder for many years. After the verdict the United States Supreme Court issued its landmark personal jurisdiction decision in Bristol-Myers Squibb v. Superior Court of Ca., 137 S. Ct. 1773 (2017) – as Ms. Slemp was a Virginia resident who did not have exposure to talc products in Missouri, the Court of Appeals vacated the judgment against Johnson & Johnson.
