Matthijs has been a lawyer since 2014. He handles liability law cases for insurers, with an emphasis on professional indemnity and corporate liability. He also handles coverage disputes, insurance fraud matters and various other (re)insurance matters.
Matthijs regularly teaches courses and he publishes in professional literature. In 2021, Matthijs completed cum laude the postgraduate specialisation course Leergang Verzekeringsrecht at the University of Amsterdam, which earned him the title Certified Insurance Lawyer (CIL). Earlier, in 2018, Matthijs completed the postgraduate specialisation course in Business and Liability of the Grotius Academy.
Matthijs is registered in the Dutch Bar Association's register of areas of law: contract law and insurance law. Pursuant to this registration, he is obliged to obtain ten training points within those areas of law each calendar year according to the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.
