Mark is an experienced insurance and regulatory partner based in Clyde & Co’s Dubai office, with a particular focus on litigation, investigations and claims involving financial institutions and professionals.
Having spent six years specialising in financial services litigation in the UK, Mark has broad experience of many aspects of financial services and acting in contentious matters involving financial institutions and professionals. He was heavily involved in the major financial product mis-selling scandals in the UK (including pensions, precipice bonds and split capital investment trust cases) and spent 7 months on secondment in the claims team of a major London market insurer in 2007.
Mark has been in the UAE since mid-2008 and has an in-depth understanding of local insurance laws in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and wider Middle East & North Africa region. He regularly advises international reinsurers on their exposures under both English and local (insurance) laws across a range of insurance products and jurisdictions.
Mark advises domestic and international re/insurers on financial lines claims across the region, including Bankers Blanket Bond, D&O, Professional Indemnity, Commercial Crime & Fidelity, and Trade Credit policies and regularly defends insurance claims in local courts throughout the region.
Mark has significant experience of dealing with local fronting insurers and working with local advocates to defend claims. He has also advised on and defended regulatory investigations by the UK FSA, the Dubai FSA and the Central Bank of Bahrain.
