Oliver joined Clyde & Co's Aviation and Aerospace Group in February 2009, prior to which he was working in the asset finance practice of another law firm based in the City of London. Oliver first practised as a lawyer in Dubai in 2001 and has, since then, regularly worked on asset finance transactions in the region.
Oliver has over 10 years' experience of advising on the legal aspects of asset finance transactions with a background in shipping and yacht finance. His practice has a strong focus on the commercial aviation sphere and he is notably active in the business jet market, working for business jet financiers, owners and operators and advising in connection with a range of loan and lease financing structures in relation to aircraft registered in all major jurisdictions for aircraft registration. Oliver also provides advice regarding wider business jet-related matters, including in relation to sale and purchase transactions, aircraft management and operating agreements, charter agreements and outfitting contracts. In addition to his work in the aviation market, Oliver continues to be active in the ship finance market, acting for lenders and borrowers, mainly in the Middle East.
In the commercial aviation sector, Oliver has extensive experience advising in relation to operating leases, tax leases, purchase contract negotiations and most other structures and transactions relating to commercial aircraft and aircraft engines.
Oliver's professional experience is underpinned with academic and professional qualifications including an LLM in banking and finance law from King's College, London.
In July 2008 Oliver was recognised by the AirFinance Journal Legal Supplement as a "rising star". Oliver was named in the International Who's Who of Aviation Lawyers 2013 as a result of receiving nominations from clients and peers.
Oliver has trained as a private pilot and is a Freeman of the London City Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators (GAPAN).
