Webinar Series: China's Greater Bay Area ("GBA") – Challenges and Opportunities for You and Your Business: Financial Connectivity, Flow of Funds and Regulations on Foreign-Direct Investment in the GBA

The GBA is a key strategic component of China’s national development blueprint. It aims to promote in-depth cooperation among nine cities in Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao, with the aim to develop a world–class city cluster by way of reforms, innovation and opening-up. The size, economic potential and interconnectivity of the GBA will create unprecedented opportunities for a wide range for businesses. Nevertheless, despite the significant business opportunities, the GBA also faces challenges and uncertainties.

In this 4th webinar series, our team of legal experts will discuss the issues including:

  • an overview on regulatory environment for foreign direct investments and the role Hong Kong plays as a platform to facilitate inbound and outbound investments;
  • recent relaxation of rules and incentives for foreign companies to invest into the Mainland China and the GBA; and
  • Foreign-Invested Electronic Payment Services, initiatives to facilitate connectivity between Hong Kong and GBA - The GBA Wealth Management Pilot Scheme (upcoming) and Insurance Connect.

The presentation will conclude with a Q&A session.

In our 1st, 2nd and 3rd webinar series, we discussed how local and international data and cyber laws will affect cross-border businesses in the GBA; the issues in relation to the geopolitical landscape between China and U.S.; the impact of COVID-19 on contractual claims; and various modes of dispute resolution in the GBA, particularly the changing face of the arbitration landscape in the region.
