Overview & Audience

Please join us for our latest Employment Law Update with People in Law. In this session we’ll be exploring the following topics:

Section 1: Philosophical belief

  • The forgotten area of D&I?  It is unlawful to discriminate against someone because of their philosophical beliefs, or indeed because of a lack of belief; but how far does this extend and what is a philosophical belief?
  •  How do law firms embed this in their D&I – and how may it impact?
    • Vegetarianism and Ethical Veganism
    • Transgenderism
    • COVID
    • Disagreements with working with particular clients (due to ESG reasons)

Section 2: ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance)

  • What ESG is and what it means for law firms.
  • What HR in law firms should be doing.

Section 3: Diversity

  • Consultation on disability workforce reporting.
    • The government  is currently consulting on disability workforce reporting for large businesses with 250 or more employees. The consultation asks for information on current reporting practices and views on implementing a mandatory approach.
    • The government’s response is expected to be published by 17 June 2022, as part of the National Disability Strategy.
    • Discussion around what this may mean for HR.
  • Promotion of diversity in the legal sector.
    • Update on SRA diversity data survey 2021.
    • Discussion around whether the profession is becoming more diverse / more willing to fill in diversity data, etc.
  • Discussion around the SRA’s Workplace Culture Thematic Review.
