Martin is the Admiralty Law Institute Professor of Maritime Law at Tulane University in New Orleans, and Director of the Tulane Maritime Law Center. He has been with the firm since 2020 but has been active as a senior consultant to law firms with maritime practices for over 35 years.
Martin is an internationally renowned expert on maritime law. He has taught maritime law in Australia, Azerbaijan, China, Italy, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom. He is co-author of the principal Australian textbook on maritime law and has published many articles and book chapters.
Martin has worked on a very wide range of maritime cases, in both Australia and the United States on both ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ matters. He was heavily involved in the investigation stages and legal proceedings in connection with the following maritime casualties incidents: “Kirki”, “Iron Baron”, “B Oceania”, “Xin Tai Hai”, “APL Sydney”, “Rena”, “Ruby Princess”. He has acted as an expert witness in courts in the United States, Panama and Singapore.
