Richard specialises in both non-contentious and contentious matters and has been at the firm for over 10 years. Richard principally advises developers, architects, contractors and funds on contracts and procurement issues across a wide range of UK and overseas multi-use developments and infrastructure projects.

Richard regularly assists clients with the preparation and negotiation of bespoke and standard form building contracts (principally the JCT and NEC), he has extensive experience negotiating professional team appointments and is developing a successful practice advising large UK architectural practices.

He also works closely with clients through project delivery to advise them on the management and resolution of disputes which commonly arise on construction and engineering projects, such as: defects, delay and disruption, scope creep, payment disputes and termination. Richard has advised on a range of complex international and domestic disputes, including both arbitrations and adjudications, and has conducted mediations for clients.

Richard is a member of the Society of Construction Law and the Technology and Construction Solicitors’ Association as well as being a RIBA accredited CPD provider.

Experience
  • Acting for a major UK developer in respect of a £200m major mixed-use regeneration scheme in Brighton including preparing, negotiating and settling the construction documents and providing construction input into the property and funding documents
  • Advising a joint venture consisting of a local government transport body and a major UK residential landlord in relation to the development of over 1,500 homes across several sites in London
  • Several PRS/BTR developments across London for a major UK residential landlord
  • Advising a leading UK architect studio on its lead design appointment for an iconic commercial skyscraper in the City of London
  • Acting for a UK architect in relation to a fire safety/cladding dispute concerning a large mixed use development in London
  • Advising a UK contractor in an arbitration against a sub-contractor in relation to the design and construction of one of the largest building projects in the South-West of England
  • Advising an overseas contractor in respect of the EPC contract entered into for the construction of an early operating facility for an oil project in Iraq
