Climate Change Risk Practice

Overview

Clyde & Co’s European Insurance team are delighted to be hosting the next session of our European Insights webinar series 2024, taking place online on Friday 26 April.

Europe is the fastest warming continent in the world and the frequency of extreme events such as drought, wildfires, and flooding, has been increasing in recent years, according to an assessment of the European Environment Agency (EEA), released in March 2024. In 2021 alone, unprecedented floods swept across Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, leading to costs of 44 billion euros. These trends will have an impact on the overall legal and business environment, furthering strategies and actions for managing risks that climate change poses.

Climate Liability in Europe and beyond – Climate Actions, Greenwashing & more

Join us for a virtual lunch event with Clyde & Co’s climate change practitioners Wynne Lawrence, David Méheut and Henning Schaloske for a discussion on recent trends and some of the key cases, indicating challenges for insurers and businesses, as they can result in higher insurance premiums and increased uncertainty in estimating potential liabilities. We will cover:

  • The impact of climate change on Europe’s litigation landscape
  • Relevant obligations, e.g. in regard of due diligence and human rights
  • Implications for directors’ duties, insurance coverage and greenwashing claims
