Global law firm Clyde & Co today announces the partner appointment of Samuel Hill, who further strengthens the firm’s energy practice. The appointment comes following an initial period as consultant at the firm.

Clyde & Co adds further depth to global Energy practice with appointment of Samuel Hill

Samuel has spent over 15 years working for several global energy corporations across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. During this time, he has been a key advisor on large-scale energy projects, with a particular focus on transactions in the LNG sector.

In-depth energy experience

Samuel has experience advising on upstream project development and financing, midstream transportation, and downstream sales arrangements in all major LNG markets. He has worked with energy companies, governments, and financial institutions on project and development transactions focused on the energy transition and carbon management, including carbon capture and storage.

He has advised financial institutions, sponsors, and corporates on joint venture and shareholder agreements as well as on governance issues, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, export controls regimes, and business compliance programmes.

Simon McConnell, Partner, Asia Pacific Board Chair, Hong Kong, said: “Sam’s appointment as a partner will further strengthen our offering to clients across the energy, marine and trade space who are all navigating risks in a rapidly changing environment. His experience working in different jurisdictions around the globe will add great value to our global clients, who have operations across multiple countries, including in emerging markets.”

Leon Alexander, Partner, Global Head of Commodities, Perth/Singapore, said: “Sam is an excellent addition to the partnership and our global energy practice, bringing significant experience and industry insights. His extensive experience in the sale and marketing of LNG is invaluable to our clients who operate across the rapidly evolving energy, marine and trade sectors.”

Samuel Hill said: “I look forward to continuing work with the firm’s global energy practice on opportunities arising from rapidly changing markets. Now more than ever, clients in these areas rely on advisors with strong industry knowledge to navigate risks.”

Rapidly evolving Risk Landscape

The appointment comes at a time when the energy, marine and trade sectors are seeing rapid change due to geopolitical developments. Asia Pacific is a dynamic and diverse energy market and home to some of the world’s largest energy, commodities, trade and marine businesses globally. The region is generating long-term demand for capital deployment across LNG, energy security infrastructure, renewables, and transition-aligned assets. Singapore is a central trading hub for LNG, and a strategic location for trading, financing, dispute management, and regulatory oversight.

Global Energy, Marine and Trade offering

The move adds significant depth to Clyde & Co’s Asia Pacific Energy and Commodities practice in the region, which most recently has been strengthened with the arrival of David Phua as partner in Singapore in July this year.

The practice has been established over eight decades ago and advises clients on sector regulation and the rapidly evolving risk landscape due to geopolitical and market factors. The firm’s lawyers act for clients across contentious and non-contentious disciplines, and often across multiple jurisdictions including developing countries.
