Clyde & Co significantly expands Bangkok platform with three-partner team and 15 lawyers and staff

The highly ranked team brings together top-tier practitioners advising clients across insurance and reinsurance, international arbitration, commercial disputes, corporate and M&A transactions, regulatory and compliance matters, and major infrastructure, real estate and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) projects. Their arrival marks a significant investment by Clyde & Co in Thailand and Southeast Asia and strengthens the firm’s ability to support clients operating in the region across the full lifecycle of investment, project development, risk management and dispute resolution.

The expansion establishes a broader full-service disputes and corporate capability in Bangkok, anchored by Clyde & Co’s global platform. This enables the firm to support market participants, including insurers and reinsurers, across the full spectrum of the business, from regulatory and transactional matters through to complex claims and dispute resolution.

The arrival of the team represents one of the most significant team hires in the Bangkok legal market in recent years and reflects Clyde & Co’s continued growth strategy across Asia Pacific.

The team will work closely with Clyde & Co’s established marine and shipping practice in Thailand, further strengthening the firm’s ability to support insurers, reinsurers, financial institutions, infrastructure developers and multinational corporates operating across Southeast Asia.

Strengthening sector capability in ASEAN

Robert Tang brings a market-leading insurance and reinsurance disputes and international arbitration team to Clyde & Co’s Bangkok office. He advises insurers, reinsurers and multinational corporates on complex insurance disputes, cross-border arbitration and high-value commercial litigation across Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on major claims and evolving risk issues in the region.

Samata Masagee brings a leading corporate and regulatory practice, advising on complex public and private M&A, joint ventures and corporate restructurings. She has extensive experience supporting domestic and international clients investing in regulated sectors, particularly energy, TMT and financial services, and is a trusted advisor to insurers, financial institutions and corporates on regulatory matters, strategic investments and cross-border transactions.

Akyn Suttawatanadech strengthens the firm’s disputes capability with a focus on construction and infrastructure matters, complex commercial disputes and arbitration, as well as investigations, product liability and corporate crime and regulatory investigations.

Together, the team enhances Clyde & Co’s sector-focused offering across insurance, energy, infrastructure and financial services, industries driving investment and economic growth across Southeast Asia. The combined capability enables the Bangkok office to support clients on major transactions, regulatory matters, complex disputes and arbitration across the region.

Thomas Choo, Managing Partner, Singapore, said: “Thailand sits at the centre of mainland Southeast Asia and continues to play a critical role in regional investment flows and supply chains. The expansion of our Bangkok office reflects both the importance of the market and our ambition to deepen our capabilities across key sectors in the region.”

Simon McConnell, APAC Board Chair, Partner, Hong Kong, said: “This is a highly strategic addition to our Asia Pacific platform. The team brings outstanding expertise across insurance, disputes, corporate and infrastructure work and significantly strengthens our ability to support clients operating across Southeast Asia.

Regional platform

The expansion further strengthens Clyde & Co’s presence in Southeast Asia. The Bangkok office forms part of the firm’s Asia Pacific network of more than 350 legal professionals across Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mainland China and South Asia.
