Carol started her aviation career working in Geneva at IATA Legal Services. Following on from that, Carol completed her professional legal training in private practice with a leading aviation law firm in London and was admitted to the Law Society of England and Wales in 2006.

Carol then joined Emirates Group Legal in 2007 focused on Emirates’ airline business and worked on major engineering procurement on some of the (then) largest contracts ever signed. 
Carol graduated cum laude from Leiden University’s International Institute of Air and Space Law in 2016 with an Advanced Masters Degree (LLM); her thesis considered solutions to liability issues faced by the (still) nascent commercial human spaceflight sector.

In 2016, Carol joined Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as Deputy General Counsel progressing to General Counsel, prior to relocating back to Europe in late 2020. She returned to legal practice in 2023 following two years as Clyde & Co’s Global Aviation Professional Support Lawyer.

Carol has been a member of the International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA) since 2006 and has served on the Board since 2009.  She frequently mentors young females in the aviation and legal sectors. She also currently serves as an Aviation Ambassador to the UK government’s Department for Transport to promote career choices in the aviation sector.  Carol was awarded the inaugural Women in Law (wider industry) Award at the British Legal Awards in November 2019. 

Carol speaks French and German and is learning Greek.

Experience
  • Legal Assistant at IATA Legal Services during the time the Montreal Convention was being signed and the Cape Town convention was being drafted and prepared for signature (1999-2002)
  • Worked at Emirates Group Legal advising the airline business teams in distribution and revenue management, engineering procurement, emergency preparedness and flight training as well as ad-hoc commercial projects and disputes. Carol provided legal support to the Emirates’ team which established its sister company, flydubai, in 2009
  • Whilst studying for her Advanced Masters Degree, Carol was a consultant working on various assignments for a London based aviation law firm, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise Ltd and flydubai
  • In 2016, Carol joined Gulf Air as Deputy Counsel advising the commercial, finance and operations teams on fleet renewal issues and related transactions, commercial projects and compliance and liability issues as well as incorporating data protection and competition law compliance programs and a system for automated contract review. There she progressed to General Counsel supervising Legal, Contract and Insurance teams and then served as its Data Protection Officer from 2018 onwards.
