Full Profile

Matt is an associate in the International Arbitration Group and specialises in complex insurance matters in the energy, engineering and construction sectors. Matt trained at Clyde & Co and has worked in the London office since 2013.

Matt's practice focuses on advising (Re)insurers on policy coverage issues and acting for (Re)insurers in related coverage disputes. He also acts for (Re)insurers in subrogated recoveries through the English courts as well as by way of international arbitration under the rules of various arbitral institutions including the LCIA and ICC.

Matt is experienced in multi-jurisdictional work, with a particular focus in Latin America, and speaks Spanish, Italian and French. Matt also has bolstered his experience in the insurance market through secondments at Willis and Zurich.

  • Advising Insurers on complex coverage issues in relation to claims under a liability policy following the collapse of a tailings dam in Brazil.
  • Acting for Insurers on a subrogated action in excess of $50 million under the ICC Arbitration Rules following the failure of a gas turbine at a thermal power station in Peru.
  • Advising insurers in relation to coverage under a Construction All Risks policy following an explosion at a petrochemical plant in Mexico during construction works.
  • Advising insurers on coverage issues and subrogation prospects relating to a multi-million dollar claim for both property damage and third party liability following an explosion at a gas facility in Austria.
  • Advising insurers on policy coverage following third party claims relating to the construction of a mine in Eritrea.
  • Acting for insurers on a subrogated action in the Technology and Construction Court following the failure of a power unit, and consequent fire, at a construction project in Cambridge.
  • Advising reinsurers in relation to coverage under an Operational All Risks policy following a fire at a wind farm in Guatemala.
  • Advising Reinsurers on policy coverage under the Property Damage and Delay in Start-Up sections of a Construction All Risks policy in relation to a multi-million dollar claim following wave damage at a construction project in Costa Rica.
