Kate has advised insurers and reinsurers on indemnity, exposure and strategy in connection with D&O, professional indemnity, construction, medical negligence and public liability claims.

Kate has extensive experience in general commercial litigation, including acting for one of Australia’s major banks in several class action proceedings stemming from the collapse of debenture schemes, and assisting on a matter which involved defending warranty and indemnity insurers in one of Australia’s largest commercial litigation matters.

She also has wide experience acting for insurers in the District and Supreme Courts of NSW in professional indemnity disputes, primarily concerning professional negligence claims against medical practitioners.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co, she spent three years with an international law firm in their insurance team advising insurers on indemnity, exposure and strategy.

Experience

• Acting for a reinsurer in relation to a major reinsurance coverage dispute with a cedant
• Providing advice to an insurer on the coverage implications for a D&O policy of an ICAC inquest
• Acting for one of Australia’s major banks in several concurrent class action proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia
• Assisting with advising warranty & indemity insurers in relation to coverage issues and acting for the insurers in one of the largest commercial litigation proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia
• Representing medical professionals at Coronial Inquests, before the Medical Council of NSW and in litigated proceedings in the District and Supreme Courts of NSW
• Advising on corporate governance and regulatory issues including providing advice on sanctions policies and frameworks across various jurisdictions
