Sam is an Senior Associate in our Dubai office, and specialises in acting for contractor clients in construction disputes in the UAE and internationally. Sam has experience in all forms of alternative dispute resolution including arbitration, adjudication and mediation as well as in court proceedings. He has particular expertise in final account disputes and building defects claims: clients praise the benefits of his sound knowledge of the construction process, gained through years of experience working onsite on construction projects.
Whilst practicing in the UK, Sam acted for contractors, sub-contractors, professional consultants, developers and funders in relation to disputes on large national projects including housing, renewable energy and PPP/PFI schemes, as well as providing front end advice from the pre-contract stage through to project completion.
Sam holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees (LLB / BA) from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is qualified in New Zealand.
Representing large multinational Australian main contractor in DIFC-LCIA arbitration proceedings (AED 140M) brought by UK-owned MEP subcontractor in respect of final account payment, including claims for variations, prolongation and disruption, and substantial counterclaims for liquidated damages and back charges.
Acting for an insurer of large international (US based) engineering consultancy in Omani local court proceedings against US designer and Omani contractor relating to US$20M liability arising from the client's supply of construction management services on a wastewater project in Oman.
