Joyce focuses on insurance litigation, employees' compensation, personal injury and property damage claims.  She is experienced in acting for insurers and corporate insured parties, including airlines, public transport service providers, chain restaurants, property management companies and construction companies, in defending claims arising out of industrial and traffic accidents.  She also advises on policy issues such as policy interpretation, policy coverage, double insurance and repudiation of policy liability due to breach of policy terms.

 

Joyce was admitted to practise in Hong Kong in 2012.

Experience
  • Acting for the EC insurer of a construction site principal contractor and sub-contractor in an accident happened in the course of employment.  Successfully obtained an indemnity costs order with enhanced interest at 10% above judgement rate against the injured employee
  • Acting for a bus company and a bus driver in a traffic accident.  Successfully resisted the plaintiff’s claim and obtained a costs order on an indemnity basis with enhanced interest at 10% above judgment rate against the plaintiff
  • Advising EC insurers on recovery claims under s.25 of the EC Ordinance against tortfeasors and seeking indemnity from tortfeasors
  • Advising on contribution issues between co-defendants in EC and public liability claims and seeking contribution on damages and costs from co-defendants
  • Advising client on late notification issues and seeking contribution from insureds
  • Defending industrial summonses brought by the Labour Department arising out of accidents at work
