Mica is a Special Counsel with over a decade of experience in Directors and Officers, Professional Indemnity and Management Liability policies. Since 2014, Mica has advised and acted for insureds in the Victorian Supreme Court and New South Wales Supreme Court. Mica is currently based in the Sydney insurance team. She also completed a secondment with our Financial Lines Insurance team in London in 2023.
Prior to joining the law, Mica was a claims handler at a Lloyds of London Coverholder. This places her in a unique position to advise on the legalities of the dispute but also understand the key pressure points for insurers and brokers.
Mica is regularly sought out by clients for her quick and commercial resolution of SME claims. Mica acts for a range of SME insureds from accountants and financial planners through to barristers and solicitors, local councils, hotel/hospitality chains, traffic management companies, real estate agencies, pharmacists and dentists regarding workplace-related matters including statutory prosecutions, discrimination, defamation, employment disputes, unfair dismissals, and disciplinary and regulatory investigations.
Mica has advised clients through criminal investigations and represented clients in both trials and coronial investigations in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia.
Mica is often sought out to provide coverage advice to insurers operating in the ML, D&O, cyber and professional indemnity space. Mica also regularly acts for insured clients under Management Liability, Employment Practices Liability or similar policies.

Experience
- Securities Class Action: Advising primary and excess insurers in a securities class action arising from one of Australia’s largest corporate collapses of an ASX top 200 company.
- D&O Defence Instructions: Acting for an unlisted funds manager on an off-market takeover bid against ASIC on appeal in Federal Court of Australia in NSW.
- Financial Services Class Actions: Advising primary and excess insurers in a relation to numerous class actions arising out of the Banking Royal Commission.
- Shareholder Disputes/Derivatives Action: Advising insurer in relation to application by a minority shareholder to issue proceedings (in the name of the Company) against a global mining company.
- Retail & Consumer Litigation: Defence of an auditor in relation to a Federal Court claim of alleged misleading and deceptive conduct.
- Professional Indemnity Litigation: Defence of a barrister against claims of negligence. Defence of an expert accountant against a non-party costs order.
- Cyber: advising an ASX listed company in response to a high profile data breach which involved investigations and inquiries by regulators.
