John's work for NHS bodies and NHS Resolution involves high value and complex medical litigation including birth injuries, fatal cases, spinal trauma, amputations and cases involving adults who have suffered serious neurological damage.
John has particular experience and expertise of psychiatric injury and psychiatric negligence cases, including mental health homicides, suicides and secondary victim / nervous shock cases.
John has significant experience of public law and judicial review particularly relating to the funding of expensive / novel treatments and medication, mental health after care services and continuing healthcare disputes.
John has been involved with many serious medical treatment disputes involving withholding and withdrawing treatment brought under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Children Act 1989.
John acted in Rabone v. Pennine Care NHS Trust, which was the first Trial and appeal of a case brought under Article 2 of the European Convention of Human Rights (the right to life) / the Human Rights Act 1998 of an informal mental health patient who committed suicide. He has been involved in many subsequent inquests and damages cases following mental health suicides and homicides where Article 2 has been relevant.
John joined Clyde & Co's Bristol Healthcare team in May 2019. He has over 10 year's experience of healthcare law, medically related inquests, mental health / mental capacity and clinical negligence having acted in these areas since qualification.
