Max is an insurance coverage lawyer who advises insurers and reinsurers across multiple lines of coverage, including first-party property, general liability, excess liability and director and officer liability. Max also has significant experience in dispute resolution through litigation and mediation having represented clients in professional negligence matters (engineers, project managers, architects and insurance brokers) and a variety of complex litigation matters, including insurance coverage litigation, contractual disputes and aviation claims.

Max holds a Masters degree in Insurance law from University College London (ULon) and a Masters degree in Canadian common law from Osgoode Hall law school. Max has contributed to international publications on the topics of insurance and reinsurance. Max also has a degree in Economics and has worked in commerce.

Max is admitted to the Bar in Ontario and is also an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

Recent Experience

  • Advising onshore renewable energy underwriters in respect of claims for property damage to wind turbines at two project locations due to locking pin failures and resulting business interruption claims.
  • Advising onshore renewable energy underwriters in respect of a claim for business interruption losses resulting from a wildfire.

  • Acting as monitoring counsel on behalf of insurers in respect of a multi-million dollar secondary market securities class action against a listed corporation.
  • Successfully moving a summary judgment motion on behalf of a Managing General Agent incorrectly sued as insurer.
