Matthew Gennaro focuses his practice on complex civil litigation and counseling regarding insurance and reinsurance coverage matters.
For more than twenty years, Matt has provided representation to both domestic and international insurance companies in a wide variety of complex insurance matters involving billions of dollars in coverage. His diversified experience includes coverage matters involving directors and officers liability, professional errors & omissions claims; products liability, Bermuda-form excess liability claims, asbestos and environmental pollution exposure and other long-tail claims, bodily and personal injury liability, concussion cases involving major sports leagues, data breach and cyber security claims, medical risk, professional liability, claims related to Covid-19, and other first-party and third-party liability coverage matters. He also is experienced in resolution of reinsurance disputes.
Matt has represented clients in insurance coverage matters throughout the United States, on both the state and federal level, including New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Washington, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Missouri. He also has represented clients internationally in matters in Bermuda, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Matt brings extensive experience to the Bermuda market, where he has served as United States claims counsel to Bermuda insurers for his entire career. In this capacity, he has helped achieve success for his clients in London and Bermuda arbitrations involving product liability, mass torts, and environmental pollution.
Outside of litigation and alternative dispute resolution, Matt also provides coverage opinions and advice to clients regarding the drafting of insurance policies. He is also a regular contributor to industry trade publications, such as The Insurance Coverage Law Bulletin, and has lectured and conducted training seminars on insurance coverage issues.
