Riley is Special Counsel and specialises in professional liability, where he acts for insurers and their policy holders in litigated and unlitigated claims. Riley also has experience in managing cyber and general insurance claims.

Riley has varied experience in litigated and unlitigated matters, regularly defending claims in all courts and tribunals in Australia.

Riley has advised insurers on various policies including professional liability, cyber, contract works and general liability, medical establishment liability, management liability, ICT liability, and employment practices.

Experience

• Representing insurers and their policy holders including health practitioners, building and construction professionals, accountants, owners corporation managers, real estate agents and IT professionals in litigated matters before the Supreme, County and Magistrates' Courts, and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

• Representing health practitioners in disciplinary matters and complaints before their boards, and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

• Acting on behalf of policy holders in producing documents and submissions to Royal Commissions. Riley also has experience in advising insurers on policy coverage for Royal Commissions.

• Acting on behalf of the State of Victoria (Country Fire Authority) defending class actions in relation to the Kilmore East and Murrindindi Black Saturday bushfires in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
