Jonas advises on both contentious and non-contentious domestic and international commercial matters, particularly in matters involving contracts of work and services. In the past he has advised on contractual and procedural issues involving various jurisdictions, which inter alia included obtaining and enforcing both domestic and foreign arbitral and judicial awards. He is used to working with lawyers and practitioners of varying branches and jurisdictions.

Jonas has broad experience in commercial casualty cases involving damage to property. He undertakes factual and legal review (including on and off-site fact finding) and processing of extensive casualty cases involving multiple damaged and damaging parties. Jonas also is experienced in maritime emergency management and has handled the aftermath of maritime casualties on and off-site.

Jonas often advises maritime industry entities or their sub-suppliers and sub-contractors with regard to contracts of works and services. Such counsel comprises contract negotiations as well as enforcing or defending warranty and other contractual claims.

Experience

• Processing of cargo damage claims which a Qatari consignee raised against the French cargo insurer of a German carrier concerning damages incurred during a voyage through the Mediterranean;
• On- and off-site emergency handling of governmental and private investigations following the grounding of a container vessel on behalf of an insurer and handling settlement negotiations in the aftermath;
• Acting for an insurer to repel governmental and private claims arising from the sinking of a barge in the harbour of Hamburg;
• Judicial enforcement of claims for damages of the owner of railway carriages due to a derailment;
• Extrajudicial and judicial enforcement of claims for damages of an onshore wind energy provider and its insurer due to the collapse of a wind turbine on the construction site;
• Handling warranty claims of and against (sub-)contractors providing construction services within the shipbuilding branch.
