Peter is a Solicitor Advocate with over 30 years' experience. He specialises in international arbitration and has represented clients in over 60 international jurisdictions around the world, from the Far East and Central Asia to the Middle East and North Africa, the USA and Latin America. He has arbitrated under the rules of all the major arbitral institutions. Peter also sits as an arbitrator and is an accredited CEDR mediator.

Peter is an active member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, and an Ambassador for their Belt and Road Initiative. He is also an International Adviser of the China Academy of Arbitration Law and chairs Clyde & Co’s Belt and Road committee.

He has lectured extensively on arbitration law and practice in Fundação Getulio Vargas São Paulo (FGV), Queen Mary University of London, the Centre for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada, Comitè Brasileiro de Arbitragem and at the inaugural CIETAC Forum of International Arbitration in Beijing.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Indian Counsel of Arbitration, a member of the London Court of International Arbitration and The Indian Commerce Association (dispute resolution committee).

  • Advising a Central Asian Government on an international treaty dispute concerning water resources (Permanent Court of Arbitration)
  • Acting for South American mining contractors in four LCIA arbitrations.  Anti-suit injunctions in London and Africa. Receipt of four Awards in clients favour totalling USD 90 million. Successful defence to challenges of Awards in both England and Zambia. Enforcement including a World Wide freezing Injunction
  • Successful applications for anti-suit and anti-anti suit injunctions in the English Court of Appeal, in relation to a USD 1bn claim arising from damage to the world's largest hydroelectric power construction project.  (Sulamerica CIA Nacional others v Enesa Engenharia SA and others [2012] EWCA Civ 638)
  • Successful ICC New York arbitration arising from allegedly defective supply of Engineering a services in a USD 25m claim.
  • Successful defence of an ICC arbitration for USD 80 million brought by a US Consortium (led by Enron) over the delay and ultimate cancellation mid construction of a USD 2 billion EPC contract for the construction of a power station
  • Successful defence of a DIAC arbitration relating to finished gold product losses with related Turkish Litigation
  • Defending an LCIA arbitration arising from strike and riot in a hydroelectric power plant in Brazil, with a stated claim of BRL 1.5 billion
  • Acting on behalf of Italian and US process control software manufacturers in relation to allegation of defective supply with Greek litigation and Belgian ICC arbitration – EUR 60 million
  • Advising major Brazilian Commodities House in relation to a CCBC São Paulo arbitration arising from negligent advice in relation to Derivative Swap Contracts  in a BRL 500 million claim
  • Advising an international panel of financial houses in relation to the failure of the Salwa Highway Qatar in a USD 300m claim arising from immediate failure of the road when putting into use.
  • Acting for a financial institution in relation to a fraudulent scheme arising from the funding of Argentine Railway losses – USD 100 million
  • Advising Recaro in relation to product liability issues arising from a fatal road traffic accident in California.
  • Acting on behalf of international reinsurers of the Cable & Wireless' Isle of Man captive insurer in relation to the illegal siphoning off of GBP 80 million in reinsurance premiums to a Guernsey based protected cell company
  • Advising Venezuelan oil major – PDVSA, in relation to onshore pollution losses – USD 50 million
  • Advising on a successful defence of a claim arising from the unsuccessful thermal insulation of a Urea Plant in the Middle East – USD 450 million
  • Advising Pharmaceutical manufacturers in relation to product liability claims in relation to topical steroid creams and claims throughout Europe
  • Advising Saudi royal family on property recovery issues
  • Acting as coordinating counsel for a US Hand Tools manufacturer in product recall for handsaws, nail guns and heating tools throughout the EMEA region
  • Acting as English law expert in Lima Peru on behalf of Banco Peruano arising from various Madoff related losses
  • Acting as English Law expert on behalf of creditors before the 2nd Circuit of the Federal District Court of New York
  • Appointed arbitrator in various significant matters, both as sole arbitrator and member of tripartite arbitration panels for business/ commercial and insurance disputes
  • Mediated numerous disputes, involving judicial review, joint venture and insurance and reinsurance disputes
