Rita has joined our Hong Kong office since 2015. She specialised in contentious marine matters, commercial litigation and corporate insolvency. Her practice covers both court and arbitration proceedings.
Regarding marine practice, Rita has experience in handling claims in relation to cargo recovery, bunker disputes, ship arrests, charterparty disputes, etc.
Rita also advises on winding up proceedings matters and represents petitioners in the proceedings. She also has experience in enforcing foreign awards/ judgments in Hong Kong.
Rita is a native Cantonese speaker and is fluent in Mandarin and English. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Law) degree from the University of Hong Kong.
Experience
- Handle proceedings in Hong Kong against various carriers in relation to one of the world’s largest container vessel casualties. Defend an appeal which is listed for hearing in the Court of Final Appeal.
- Advise and assist the clients in defending a claim of over US$20 million in relation to an explosion incident.
- Act for a client in a High Court action with a claim of over US$30 million under an agency contract.
- Advise a re-insurer client regarding a claim of about US$42 million arising out of contamination of blended fuel oil.
- Successfully defended a commodity claim with an amount exceeding US$5 million.
- Represent petitioners and obtained winding up orders against debtor companies; advise on scheme of arrangement, suspicious transactions, unfair preference claims and rescission of winding-up order; attend creditors’ meetings; liaised with liquidators in relation to distribution of assets.
