Asyraf was called to the Singapore Bar in 2017, and is currently an Associate in the firm's Marine & International Trade team in Singapore.
Asyraf represents insurers, P&I Clubs, cargo interests, shipyards, shipowners, charterers, freight forwarders, and commodity trading firms in a broad range of contentious and non-contentious shipping matters, as well as international trade disputes.
Asyraf's contentious shipping experience includes ship collisions, oil pollution matters, charterparty disputes, bill of lading disputes, bunker claims, and loss and/or damage to cargo. His non-contentious shipping experience includes drafting and reviewing sale and purchase agreements, charterparties, bills of lading, and compliance / sanctions guidelines.
Asyraf has experience of multi-jurisdictional dispute resolution and handles claims both in court and arbitration proceedings including SIAC, LMAA and LCIA. He has particular expertise advising clients on disputes across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Asyraf regularly volunteers his time with the Law Society of Singapore on the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme and at Community Legal Clinics.
Acted for P&I Club in a personal injury claim arising out of an accident on board a Singapore-flagged vessel.
Acted for cargo interests in limitation action brought by shipowners in the Singapore High Court in respect of a marine casualty in Venezuela.
Acted for a shipyard in an arbitration relating to a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) dispute.
Acted for shipowners in cargo misdelivery claim in connection with Hin Leong Trading's fraudulent trading practice.
Acted for charterers in charter hire dispute involving barratry in Indonesian waters.
Acted for commodity trading firm in contractual dispute over sale and purchase of bitumen mixture in the People’s Republic of China.
Acted for bunker trading firm in contractual dispute over sale and purchase of bunkers in the United Arab Emirates.
