A commercial and regulatory lawyer, specialising in contract advisory work, early-stage commercial disputes and compliance matters for the aviation industry.
Alastair acts for various aviation service providers, such as ground handling companies, MRO organisations, aircraft operators and airlines, on a range of commercial and regulatory legal matters.
His principal areas of work include assisting clients with concluding agreements for passenger and cargo handling services, airport operations, MRO services, inventory technical management, aircraft component engineering and repair work, aircraft wet leasing, airline conditions of carriage and other commercial projects. He also assists multinational clients with cross-border commercial dispute resolution (pre-litigation) and non-insurance related claims between aviation stakeholders from time to time.
On the regulatory front, Alastair advises on aviation safety, security and economic regulatory compliance matters as well as discrete competition law issues. His practice also involves broader advisory work on intellectual property, data privacy and cyber security within the aviation industry.
Alastair has a blend of private practice and in-house experience. He spent over four years working at a large UK airline, predominantly supporting the ground operations and airport procurement teams. A fluent French speaker, he also spent two years working for an Anglo-French defence company in Paris.
He is a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). Alastair is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England & Wales.

Ground handling services – Undertaking a review of a suite of handling contracts and commercial service level standards for a Hong Kong cargo terminal and logistics provider
Aircraft components – Assisting a fleet inventory technical management organisation with several high-value commercial agreements with its airline customers
Aviation engineering – Supporting a Mainland Chinese MRO outfit in its negotiation of an engine component tooling agreement with a US multinational OEM
Engine damage insured claim – Participation in a recovery claim brought by a large Japanese insurer and a Japanese airline in relation to damage to a Boeing 747 aircraft
MRO defendant dispute resolution – Participating in settlement negotiations and drafting on behalf of an MRO client and airline as a result of aircraft damage during Typhoon Meranti
Terms and conditions – Drafting new terms and conditions of service for a Hong Kong based general aviation handling provider’s cross-border project at a Mainland Chinese airport
Intellectual property – Assisting an MRO client with protecting its intellectual property rights under a technical assistance agreement
Competition law – Assessing the potential (UK, EU and HK) competition law impact on a client’s proposed information sharing and customer relationship management system and participating in litigation involving historic fuel surcharge cartel behaviour
Data privacy – Advising an Asian based airline with GDPR compliance, including drafting new policies for data privacy, processing, transfers and data protection officers
