Casey has developed a passion for superannuation remediation and advice work, stemming from several in house secondments at a large superannuation administrator. Casey's ability to provide commercial, straightforward and timely advice has enabled her to develop a strong reputation in superannuation remediation work and assist with compliance, regulatory, fund administration and contractual advice work unique to the superannuation industry.
Casey also assists with both defence work pursuant to directors' and officers' liability and financial lines professional indemnity insurance claims. Having previously worked as a plaintiff solicitor at a large class action firm, Casey has an interest in class action and representative proceedings. Casey has also previously had conduct of a lengthy Commission of Inquiry, representing a group of affected individuals following a large flooding event.
Casey's diverse background has made her a dynamic practitioner, who is able to work across a large variety of matters and quickly reconcile complex facts and provide succinct and time sensitive advice.
Casey is also passionate about access to justice and coordinates Clyde & Co's National Pro Bono Program. As part of this role, Casey works with not-for-profits and provides advice across a diverse range of matters, including privacy, taxation and compliance issues.
Experience
- Superannuation – providing advice to a superannuation administrator for fund remediation following inadvertent breaches of the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993.
- Superannuation – advice as to treatment of Refund Tax Imputation Credits and uninvested funds.
- Superannuation – providing advice to Trustees in connection with various complaints to the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal.
- Superannuation – advice in relation to Trustee's obligations following a wind up of an employer sponsored plan.
- Directors and officers insurance claim – defending a director in relation to allegations that a series of high value transactions were allegedly fraudulent and / or related transactions.
- Professional indemnity – defending accountants and financial planners in breach of contract, negligence and breach of fiduciary duty claims.
- Commission of Inquiry – acting for West Grantham residents and directly instructing Senior Counsel during a five week Inquiry held in rural Queensland.
- Class actions – acting for plaintiffs in multiple class actions arising from the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria and the 2013 Blue Mountains bushfire and 2014 Mickleham bushfire.
