Julie advises on negotiating and drafting building and engineering contracts under different forms of procurement including traditional, alliancing, design and build, and construction management, together with all ancillary documents. She has experience in advising on EPC contracts, development manager agreements and EPC contracts, working with both bespoke contract forms as well as industry standard documents such as NEC, JCT and FIDIC.
Julie also advises clients on contentious matters and has particular expertise in adjudications and developing bespoke forms of dispute resolution procedures where the parties have long term commercial and partnering arrangements.
Julie started her career as an academic before becoming a lawyer and worked for many years at DLA Piper where she headed up the Yorkshire Construction and Engineering team. She has continued her life-long interest in learning and as well as delivering training to clients, she teaches on the IStructE Engineering post-graduate course and is a LexisNexis Construction panel expert. She currently sits on the Board of Governors of a UK University.
Julie has always been involved in external initiatives and was instrumental in setting up the hugely successful Prince's Trust "Get Into Construction programme", working alongside the Chief Executives of a number of major international construction and infrastructure businesses to bring businesses together to create opportunities for disadvantaged young people within the industry.
