As a Legal Director, Kelly Matthews leads our costs team in Southampton where she provides advice on a full range costs to clients and lawyers. 

Her expertise includes complex catastrophic injury costs, commercial costs, fixed costs and costs budgets. She is also well-versed in Technology & Construction Court (TCC), and Part 36 of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).

Kelly has particular experience in all aspects of cost budgeting, including drafting and defending budgets in excess of GBP 4 million. She has also conducted numerous costs and case management hearings across the country.

Kelly has extensive experience in dealing with costs of complex and high-value catastrophic injury cases, some of which involved multi-million-pound bills. In addition to this, she has attended over 100 detailed assessment hearings.

Having worked exclusively in costs since 2000, she has vast experience with conditional fee agreements, after the event (ATE) policies, and the law in relation to both claimants and defendants.

She also regularly provides training on fixed costs, multi-track costs, and CPR Part 36 to a wide range of insurers. In 2011, Kelly qualified as a Fellow of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen (ALCD).
