For the duration of his legal practice (5 PQE) Thomas has been working closely with insurer clients, defending and advocating for their insured's interests predominantly in contentious matters. He has experience in defending and advising a broad range of professionals including environmental consultants, certifiers but primarily civil, structural and geotechnical engineers.

Thomas has also acted for a variety of clients in the public liability space with a focus on construction and engineering clients as well as licensed premises/hotels.

Overall he is client focussed in his approach and strives to achieve optimum results tailored to his client's desired outcomes.

Experience
  • Professional indemnity: Environmental Consultant – Defending an environmental consultant against a claim brought by the ACT Government in relation to loss resulting from delays and re-design of the North Weston Pond allegedly caused by higher than estimated asbestos, building rubble and other latent conditions of the particular site. 
  • Professional Indemnity: Structural Engineer – Advising an engineering firm and its witnesses throughout a State Government lead Commission of Inquiry into the stability of a Dam.
  • Professional indemnity: Design Engineer – Defending a design engineer against four Plaintiff's in relation to drawings, specifications and advice provided by the engineer and advice provided by the design engineer for the design and construction of the Yallourn Coal Field and Morwell River Diversion. The Morwell River Diversion suffered a catastrophic failure on or about 5 or 6 June 2012.
  • Public Liability: Head Contractor – Acting on behalf of the head contractor to a variety of projects in relation to the defence of claims brought by injured employees, contractors or labour hire employees.
  • Professional indemnity: Civil Engineer – Acting on behalf of a civil engineer against allegations of negligence in relation to non-compliant design drawings and modelling occasioning delay and contractor variations on various transport infrastructure projects.
  • Property: Owner – Acting on behalf of insurers (by way of subrogation) to recover damages from a third party tenant following a fire at the insured’s premises.
