Dee Chhokar is an Associate in the insurance practice group and is based in the Dubai office. She joined from Clyde & Co’s UK offices where she worked for 7 years advising insurers  on medium- high value insurance related claims including subrogated recoveries, liability defence, and coverage cases. She worked on both non-litigated and litigated cases. 
In addition to the above Dee worked on a number of professional negligence claims against experts. 
Prior to joining Clyde & Co  Dee worked at a specialist insurance law firm for 5 years, progressing from fee earner assistant in the Counter Fraud Services department to specialising in the Technical Excellence Division of the Casualty Department after having successfully completing her training contract. 
During her time in the Casualty Department Dee managed a case load of multi defendant litigated files spanning across a range of areas including unlawful imprisonment, contract, employers liability, Defective Premises Act 1972, Consumer Protection Act 1987 and Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 as well as public liability.  

Most recently Dee has also advised on misrepresentation and fraud issues arising out of business interruption claims following Covid 19. 

Experience
  • Successfully progressing a policy coverage case to avoidance where there were concerns of fraud/ misrepresentation; 
  • Defending a case arising out of pesticide pollution, by way of reaching an early and economic settlement and then pursuing a subrogated recovery against the agronomist;
  • Pursuing damages from an oil services company following a domestic spillage that arose from defective workmanship;
  • Advising on policy coverage and defending a claim involving multiple claimants following water contamination of a private spring;
  • Repudiating and defending a number of claims under Guernsey law as a result of property damage following refurbishment works; and
  • Using the Civil Procedure Rules in order to strike out a case following repair works on the grounds of abuse of process and using the rules generally in order to deal with cases in a time and cost-effective way by utilising tools such as Part 36 offers and Part 18 Requests.
