Mary Anne handles complex EPC construction and engineering disputes in the UK and internationally, particularly in the energy, power and infrastructure sectors.

Her extensive experience includes litigation, international and domestic arbitration (including ICC, LCIA, CIETAC, SIAC, LMAA) and adjudication; expert determination; and alternative dispute resolution procedures such as early neutral evaluation and mediation.  She also works alongside clients to help them during the delivery phase of their projects so that disputes are avoided where possible and successfully managed when they do arise. She has knowledge of all of the key standard forms such as FIDIC, NEC, IChemE, JCT and MF/1 as well as bespoke agreements.

Mary Anne acts for asset owners/developers, consultants and contractors throughout the supply chain on projects in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Latin America. She won scholarships to Oxford University and to Geneva University; has worked in both the UK and France; and speaks English, French, German and Spanish.

She is a winner of the European Women in Construction and Engineering awards and for many years has been included in the global Acritas Stars database as a stand-out lawyer.  She has been ranked for many years in Chambers and Legal 500 as a Leading Individual and is described as "very experienced and strategic" and "very pragmatic, proactive, clear, transparent in her advice - everything in-house counsel is looking for in a provider". She is regularly invited to speak and write on construction and clean energy topics, including writing for Practical Law on construction and climate change.

Experience
  • Advising an international energy group in a major LCIA arbitration and series of adjudications relating to a contractor's claim for EUR 140 million concerning construction of an offshore wind farm
  • Acting for a contractor in an LMAA arbitration of a contractual dispute arising out of a GBP 300 million rig contract
  • Acting for one of the world's largest utilities in a multi-million pound dispute concerning damage to gas pipelines
  • Regularly advising a major company in the rail sector on its disputes, including adjudications, mediations, and early neutral evaluations; and advising this company in relation to disputes over three flagship projects within its GBP 7 billion investment programme
  • Advising a global oil & gas services company on disputes across the world (including in Asia Pacific and the North Sea) relating to alleged defects, product recall and liquidated damages concerning its subsea production and processing systems
  • Acting for a Scandinavian headquartered global company in a USD 70m dispute and SIAC arbitration concerning a major power plant in the Middle East
  • Advising a North American headquartered global EPC contractor in two complex disputes (ICC arbitration) concerning performance guarantees, defects, delay and bond calls relating to chemical plants in the Middle East
