Bilaal joined Clyde & Co in 2021 after spending over 7 years in a boutique litigation firm in Edinburgh, where he was latterly Head of Court of Session Litigation.

Bilaal has substantial experience in commercial dispute resolution and public law. He defends professional negligence claims against a variety of professionals including construction contractors, architects and accountants in the Court of Session and Sheriff Courts across Scotland. He has a wider dispute resolution practice encompassing commercial contracts, property disputes, shipping and insolvency.

For several years, Bilaal acted as Edinburgh Agent for firms across the UK, particularly in judicial reviews in the immigration law sector. He has acted in high-profile public law cases including for the Oil and Gas Authority in defending a judicial review of the license to develop the Vorlich oil field in the North Sea and acting in a judicial review against a decision of the Scottish Labour Party to change the freeze date in the constituency candidate selection.  

Bilaal has won several awards including Paralegal of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards and Immigration Lawyer of the Year (2020). He currently tutors Public Law at the University of Edinburgh and is a contributor to Free Movement, the UK's leading immigration law blog.

  • Acting for a firm of Chartered Accountants defending a claim for professional negligence for £700,000 on the grounds that the losses arose from the Pursuer's own criminal acts
  • Acting for attorneys in a dispute as to whether licensing of music performances on YouTube were grounds for claiming fraudulent misrepresentation in respect of heads of agreement settling previous litigation.  
  • Acting for the Petitioner as Edinburgh Agent in a judicial review against a decision of the Scottish Labour Party to change the freeze date in the constituency candidate selection
  • Acting for the UK's Oil & Gas Authority in defending a judicial review of the license to develop the Vorlich oil field in the North Sea
  • Acting for the Pursuer in an action for civil fraud seeking interdict against alienating shares in a limited company and high-value taxi cabs.
  • Acting for the Pursuer in challenging the validity of personal guarantees exceeding £650,000 signed under induced misrepresentation
